First Settlers

Mars Hill First Settlers – The photographs shown are some of the first settlers of this community. The Almon Wiley shown in the Thomas Wiley family, always called “Amm” is the one who penned the record of the building of the Mars Hill Church. Note: A two-year-old daughter of the Wiley family was the first interrment in Mars Hill Cemetary. She was buried while the roof was being installed.

We are very sorry that we could not come up with pictures of the Alex Wilson family who donated the land for the building site.
